Includes all labor, materials and supplies needed for laying the tile flooring based on entered square footage. Results are approximations based on setting porcelain tile in the United States. Total cost sums exclude any taxes charged for both materials and labor amounts.

Options for Installing Porcelain Tile Flooring:

1 The diagonal is laid at 45 degrees while straight is parallel with the walls. Porcelain does incur a greater charge on the diagonal than many other tiles due its greater challenge in cutting.
2 This is the length times width (inches) divided by 144.

Inclusions and Exclusions

Included is the install of porcelain tile that is to be set overtop other flooring, or subflooring, in either a straight or diagonal pattern on the horizontal floor surface. This exludes any removal of the existing floor or making reinforcements or replacing the subfloor like with cement backerboard which would come at an extra. A simple porcelain decorative tile border may be part of the completed floor. Custom borders or inlays are excluded.

Labor, Materials and Supplies notes:

  • The labor component charged to the project only. Includes all labor necessary for the completion of project from prepping the floor, including removal and replacement of baseboard moulding, making the proposed layout of the tile pattern and laying selected porcelain tile in a centered fashion.
  • The materials amounts include commonly selected porcelain tiles. Charges may be especially more for porcelain having relatively high PEI ratings -- which provide greater wear, or for more elaborate or high end designs or for custom glazed tiles.
  • Takes into account making a greater percentage of cuts with wet saw instead of manual cutters like nippers. Although where tighter areas & obstacles are found among the floor field, that must be cut around, this may raise prices by 25% to 35% and greater.
  • Includes supplying & applying adhesives like thinset mortar mix (factoring polymer modified thin-set) or epoxy adhesive or premixed adhesive; applying back buttering techniques where called for.
  • Tools and supplies accounted for, include occasional replacement diamond blades for wet tile saw, and hole cutters. Includes the placement of spacers that are normally 1/8" to 1/2" although many tile setters do not opt for these.
  • Taking measures at protecting existing flooring, and final cleanup and disposal of waste is allocated within these amounts.
  • Grade of supplies and materials are intercompatible and rated at moderate and above.

  • Amounts for the labor portion per specific geographic locales may fluctuate based on given zip code.
